Dear Bloodliners,

This guy walks into a bar with a set of jumper cables around his neck. He
orders a beer. The bartender says, "OK, but don't try to start something!"

I didn't mean to start something and am sorry I contributed to some of the
furor over the past few days.
James, I especially apologize to you that I took some of my wrath out on
you. Your statement (CEO pay) was an innocent one and did not deserve
my response. I hope you will accept my apology.

At the risk of boring you Bloodliners, I would like to explain my reaction
(read "over"reaction). If you are not interested in this, well, you know
where the "delete" button is.

Bloodlines is the first internet "chat" type site to which I have belonged.
I joined it because I wanted to associate with people who had a like
interest in my favorite singer/songwriter. Plus, I thought it was pretty
special that John actually participated in the conversations. I've been a
member of Bloodlines for a little over 2 months and have really enjoyed to
discussions, banter, history and humor. The recent flap as a result of the
Berkeley Professor just caught me off guard. I am quite informed
politically, write my representatives in Congress, support issues about
which I feel strongly, blah, blah, blah. MY expectation of Bloodlines was
to escape some of the real world and go to a place that was lighter and
more fun. Hence, my over-reaction to some of the mail I read. I did,
by-the-way, write to Berkeley in protest).

If I could rewind the past several days I would still speak out on what I
saw as a dividing of Bloodliners into Good Rats and Bad Rats. However,
I would not have included you, James, and I would not have dropped from
the group. For that, I apologize.

Anyway, I hope my coming back does not "start something". I would very
much like to get back to discussing JS, the KT, music, banjos, guitars
(even though the only one I play is made of air), etc.

Any comments you have to or about me, please feel free to go public on
Bloodliners or send to me personally.

Special thanks to Bobby, Patrick, Michelle, and JS.

David

David,
Welcome back - don't be gone so long next time.
I understand the concern that there might be good rats and bad rats.
(There aint no way you know...)

A short time back BLRs seemed to be interested in who got on the
Bloodline first. There were discussions like --- " I was number 44 I
think",
"Well I was in the first 20 etc etc." I was afraid we were getting into
some
kind of 'them and us' thing at that time. 'Old timers' vs 'New Comers'.
I decided to lose the mustache and wait and see what happened.
'Ranking' on Michelle's list quickly became a non topic.

I'm beginning to believe that this group has a little more sense
than most and a lot more sense than I do most of the time.
I tend to start hip shooting when my passions are aroused and
I've found that crow isn't too bad with garlic and a little lemon.

A serious welcome, I really believe I need to be stirred up
once in awhile - reminds me I'm alive.

Thanks,
Roy

Thanks Roy,

Fortunately I love garlic, so.....

I appreciate your thoughts and welcome back. I had to come back, as I just
received my official Bloodliners Seattle, Mister? badge.

David

PS - To all those Bloodliners to whom this applies, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.

Home is where they have to take you back. Welcome home! I'd hate to
lose anyone from this list. It always reminds me that there are other
people in the world with good taste. As any John Stewart fan can tell
you..."loyal friends and front row dancers hitch your wagon to a star".
We have and there's always room for more. Besides if we were all of the
same mind about everything imagine how dull it would be.
Once again welcome back .
Angelbravo...I have read of tours you did with Guy Clark. The 2 CDs on
the playere right now are Rough Sketches and Keepers - Guy Clark's
newest. Do you keep in touch with him at all?
Just being nosy. Luke

John...

From a guy who spent four years in the navy. . . boy, can I relate to the
above...and not just in the literal sense (well, that too!) either.

As long as the <open discussions we get into> shoot holes only *above* the
waterline of our 'blood' vessel, and not *below* it, the open seas of life
will allow us 'liners to maintain the only course we know - steady as she
goes!!

Dave Taylor, it seems that no matter what I put on these bloodlines, someone
jumps down my throat. I was going to sit in silence and do nothing, but when
John outlines exactly what was going on, I, as an animal lover, felt that it
wasn't right to just sit and not even render an opinion. I don't think there
could possibly be a "line" drawn between bloodliners and "not bloodliners."
There are just cruel people - and NOT cruel people. If you want me to sit
back and do nothing while innocent creatures are being tortured, I won't do
it here - nor anywhere. Got any other putdowns of me now?

To AngelBravo: I'll try to attach your thoughtful way of gently putting me
in a less impulsive place. I need help thinking my answers through,
especially when I am angry. I guess Terry's position reminded me of people I
have known who are so peaceful and casual, they tended to almost hurt others
by taking NO action.
Terry may not be like that, and does have a certain perspective, although I
do not agree with it.
But now I have to be sorry myself, for I wrote even more hot words to Dave
Taylor tonight, having read his mail before I read yours. I am sorry if I
hurt anyone - I just could not stomach a person thinking that it was okay in
any way at all to hurt a kitten, a chimp or any creature. And I still can't.
AngelBravo, thank you for taking time to think out an answer for this issue.
There is nothing hypocritical about you and there could never even be a
question of your trying to be a "groovy guy" as in a crowd-pleaser or as in
what's "cool." Please don't stop shooting from the hip, and please don't
let my clumsiness on these lines stop you from pursuing this trouble about
the doctor. I promise, I won't write another word of anger anymore as long
as you stay committed to ending the doctor's grant and the torture he is
inflicting on the kittens. KShep87309

Answer to AngelBravo: Did send a letter to the Chancellor of Berkeley with my
customary sharp words about DeValois and his practices. Also referenced that
he had been fined before and also did not let veterinarians treat sick
animals, in addition to the torments he subjected the creatures to. Keep
fighting the good fight -KShep87309

Clack, (and for everyone's info)

I know that recently Goodnet in Phx lost about 137 of their client's sites,
due to hacking,....unless they had back up copies, they were in deep doo doo
also..

Please don't forget this time to make a backup copy of your site file...it
will get you up and running quickly in the even this continues to be a problem.

Good luck and so sorry this happened to ya

Just to make ClackClack feel like he's among friends...

Did anyone who has subscribed in the last three weeks keep the "Another
Welcome to Bloodlines" message that I sent to you? ... not the one with all
the technical stuff (that's sent from majordomo).

The e-mail application program I use is not what I would call a quality
product... and I lost a whole lot of stuff. Yes, Nancy, I know about making
backups... ;-)

Would some newcomer send me back that message?
Thanks

Welcome aboard, James!

I, too, am a teacher, and I have introduced my students to the wonders
of JS' music. I get regular requests for Daydream Believer and Dreamers
on the Rise. I use the songs as historical references and as examples
of creativity in working with common themes in new ways. I even used
some of his songs (and mine) during a unit analyzing Renaissance art!

Happy Mother's Day tomorrow!

I would be more than happy to send concert pictures, if we could just

weeks, I can see what I can do around here in Ft. Worth/Dallas.

From:	ddunet@concentric.net (Michelle Stevens)

He're is the information from Pete Crossland on the John Stewart Concert in
Ohio later this month.

**************************************************************************
John will be in northeast Ohio for and "Intimate Evening" (limited to 25
people) on Friday, May 30. He will also be giving a public concert on May
31st at the Happy Days Center of the CVNRC located east of State Route 8 on
Route 303. Both shows begin at 7:30 pm.

The success of the shows (and our availability to get John to keep coming
back!) rest with our group's advance ticket sales and our ability to
promote the shows.

The basic "support unit" os $75 package which includes 1 ticket to the
"Intimate Evening" show (a $30 value) and 6 tickets to the Saturday concert
(a $60 value). The purchaser may use, sell or give away the $10 tickets.
Those purchasing a $75 package may buy additional tickets to the "Intimate
Evening" at $25 each.

Individual tickets for the "Intimate Evening" may be purchased for $30, as
available. First priority for "Intimate Evening" tickets will be given to
those purchasing the $75 package.

Tickets for the Saturday concert at Happy Days may be purchased for $10
each in advance or $13 at the door.

To purchase tickets, please send a chack made out to "Crossland" and write
FOJS (Friends of John Stewart) on the memo line of your chack. Checks
should be mailed to
FOJS
c/o Pete Crossland
29 Boston Avenue
Akron, OH 44302
PeteCros@aol.com

Tickets wil be mailed promptly to you upon receipt of your check.

Please call Pete Crossland at (330) 867-4967 with any questions or suggestions.
**************************************************************************

For those of us outside the Ohio area, we can still benefit from this. Pete
has agreed to give us some insights as to how it went and what could be
done differently in the future to make it even better. Maybe we can some up
with a scenario like this for Bloodliners all over the country to use for
promoting John and his music!

Subj:	These three...
Date:	97-05-10
From:	Susan1136@aol.com

Having been a member for months, I have been an infrequent contributor,
preferring to sit back and watch. However, I do have a few comments now....

Regarding the DeValois "thing" ... after reading and re-reading the posts,
especially the detailed post from JS himself, I sat down and wrote the
letter. I must say, as passionate as John is about animal rights, my own
personal "passion" has been Amnesty International, going back many more years
than I care to count!. So, I can understand how strongly someone can feel
about a cause. However, my own personal experience lobbying in Washington
has taught me to give 'em "just the facts, sir"....these people are not moved
by passion, but by cold hard facts. They are not interested in long-winded
letters...mostly, they read the first and last paragraphs only. Kind of like
the editors who read unsolicited manuscripts for magazines ... My letter was
brief and to the point...I hope it does some good. Thank you John for the
details...it provided me the needed ammunition.

On a lighter note, after 30 years I finally got back at my sister! In 1966,
when I was a sophomore in high school, the Trio played their farewell NY
appearance at St. John's University. My sister (who is much older than I)
refused to take me. I did everything to cajole her -- weeping, moaning,
offering free babysitting to her rugrats... She would not be moved. Well,
Thursday evening she and her husband took me to Atlantic City to see the Trio
-- for free! Sort of a combination Mother's Day/End of School celebration
(I'm maintaining a B average). Not only did I get to enjoy a great concert,
but I came out $300 ahead! I'd never been to AC before, but I had such a
great time...good food, good music, good company...that even today, Saturday,
I didn't mind having to get up early to set up the soccer field for MY
rugrat!

One last thing...I certainly hope the Bloodline members can respect each
others rights to their own opinions. If everyone here agreed on everything,
it would be sadder than not. For my own part, I may not agree with anything
anyone has to say -- even disagree vehemently -- but I will defend your right
to say it.

Bleeding heart liberal, and damn proud of it!

hello,all,
seeing so many people de-lurk recently has prompted me to do the
same.
like so many of you, my affection for js's music dates back to his
trio days. iavidly followed his solo career, and own most of his catalog
on now-useless vinyl. i'm rapidly replacing - and augmenting - my
original collection with cd's.
     i'm a health care professional, and a part-time musician. i'm
currently in a group that plays traditional irish music, but have played
in various folk-rock outfits before (and always played a handful o'
stewartunes). i credit my love for the trio and of my other boyhood
idols, the 4 seasons, with steering me into playing music. i was
thrilled to be able to write to john, and tell him how much his music
has meant to me. i've seen him perform four times, and am hopin' he
swings thru philly again soon.
thanks for listening, and thanks for writing.

In response to Mike M of the UK............

Bravo......AAAAAMEN......and all that good jazzzzzz!!!!

This has been an interesting discussion, upsetting, but interesting. With
such an intelligent group of folks responding to each other there is going to
be some controversy. I have CHOSEN to mail my own personal letter regarding
the Dr.'s practices........I did so after asking a friend who happens to be
color-blind, what his impression of these expereiments was.

.......Real people.......Real issues........John's music is constantly
resounding in my mind.

John, Bobby Kennedy made music when he spoke the words......"the hottest
places in Hell are reserved for those who, in times of great MORAL CRISIS, do
nothing." I was thinking about this quotation for a while regarding this
particular issue. (Robert Kennedy and his brother were pretty special
individuals!) But I must say that your ability to recall the perfect phrase
at the right time, is extremely impressive.

Mike, In response to your question, I don't believe John is country, but
maybe he should be the one to answer this question!
