Hi Michelle,
It's called Quicken 6.0, bank at home. Quicken, in partnership with my
bank, allows me to download my statement at will, to transfer between
accounts, and to write checks all online. I've had it for over a year now,
and I still get a kick out of paying my bills online. It's GREAT! Check it
out. Quicken is a great accounting system for personal use anyway, and the
Bank At Home feature is wonderful.
I'm looking forward to my badge arriving in time for McCabe's. Tomorrow, St.
Patrick's Day, I'll treat myself to tickets for both shows. See you online.

From:	slowcoach@easynet.co.uk (Bob Elliot)

Hi

I have updated the Omaha Rainbow section of my site. Issue 7 (John
Stewart content) now online.

I thought it was a good idea to publish the John Stewart content of
Omaha Rainbow Magazine on the Web but, unfortunately, I have had very
little response.

It takes a long time to scan these pages and then convert them into
text, so please let me know if you think it is worthwhile or not.

Your comments are most appreciated.

Yes, Bob, I've been reading every word of the Omaha Rainbow content on your

And while I'm at it, I'm mightly grateful for all the Stewart websites that
have been popping up. Each serves a little bit of a different niche for me,
but I visit them all fairly regularly. Your's, and now John's, are welcome
additions. -- Don

Don't worry I am working on getting the relevant copies of ZigZag. I

If you or anyone else out there knows which issues of ZigZag featured

Thanks for all your kind comments re my website.

Sorry if my previous posting to this list sounded a little abrupt but
the fact is, I don't want to be posting information that (a) people
have already got or (b) may not be of interest. The only way that
Webmasters (sorry Michelle, should that be Webmistresses or
Webpersons) know if their site is of interest is by feedback from the
viewers.

I'd like to hear from you if there is something you either like or
dislike about the site, or if you feel you could make a contribution
to the content.

I am just pleased that I can contribute something relating to my
favourite singer/songwriter. There is a lot of garbage out there on
the Web and it is great to see sites like Ron's, Michelle's,
Wonderdog's and John's own site. The great thing is, they are all
about the same guy but are all different.

Sorry to waffle on so much. I'll continue to keep everyone posted
when I update my site; including Omaha Rainbow (and, hopefully
ZigZag).

Cheers

Bob,

Just felt duty-bound to join on the vote of thanks for your noble efforts,
even though I'm a bit late.

My ZigZag collection only runs from #25 through to #100, with one or two
that have regrettably gone AWOL over the years. But I'd be happy to scour
through I those I have, if it would help you out. Not such an onerous
task, since the old fogeys versus new punks wars ended in total victory for
the latter element round about ZZ70.

Off the top of my head I can still remember that the 'review' of California
Bloodlines Ray referred to is at the back end of ZZ38, from Jan 74. (I'm
assuming you mean the four-page Pete Frame "Ten Greatest Albums of The
Century" piece, Ray. But I seem to remember the mag started up in 69, so I
guess it could have gotten a contemporary review in a very early issue.)

Also, as I was reminded of by one of OR pieces you've got up already, there
is a lengthy Peter O'Brien piece in ZZ42. Unfortunately this is one of
those lost in action. Dontcha hate it when you trust people with
irreplaceable artifacts, only to have your trust betrayed?

I'd trust you my ZZ38 original, though, should you have any difficulties
locating it, and a photocopy wouldn't scan acceptably.

Thanks again.

Martyn

Greetings to all 'Stewartistas' (Michelle seems to prefer that over 'Flamingoheads')
She said I should introduce myself so ---
I'm about 4 years younger than Johnny Flamingo and live in New England
(US), specifically Barrington RI. For those of you with maps big enough to show
Rhode Island, I'm between Providence and Newport. (Yes the folk festival is great -
it we could get the Big Guy there it would be better - everybody write Ben & Jerry)
I'm a systems analyst for the Monet Jewelry Group here in RI. I 'learned to
play guitar by listening to Kingston Trio records' . I first discovered JS on the KT
Closeup album and was greatly relieved that they would continue without
Dave Guard. Actually, I believe I've seen the Kingston trio in ALL of it's incarnations
including the 'New' KT that Bob Shane tries to deny. I learned that Bob is the
biggest influence on the KT sound and John - well he's just himself, and that's more
than enough. I've been lucky enough to acquire copies of all of John's US albums and
tapes (anybody wants a tape of Signals Through the Glass let me know). I also have
a Bandera tape and an early copy (different cover) of Rocket Roy (with a JS autograph
to'Rocket Roy".) The Bandera tape was one John made to take to Scotland where the
band recording was made. (Dave's right - the band was great but John's 'demo' version
is as good, just different)
I was lucky enough to attend one of John's workshops a couple of years ago at
Penn State - I recommend it for anyone who needs a jolt to their creativity - It works.
I started painting again after about 5 years.

Enough already - Is anybody else out there planning to see John in Boston
on April 11th (I'd love to go to McCabes but it is just a bit of a hike). According to the
guy at Club Passim advanced sales for John's show have been pretty good. If you're
going, the club is below the Globe Bookstore 47 Palmer St Cambridge. It's right in the
heart of Haavaad (that's how we say Harvard in New England). The club is Alcohol and
Smoke free, but we can get a beer across the street. I must say, Harvard students are
looking awfully young lately. I'll be bringing 2 or 3 people so maybe we can get together
for some Flamingo-ness.

From:	CLYTN4@aol.com

Hi all
Its taken me about six months to do this, my first posting to the list. Just
waiting 'til I had something to say.....hope some of you think it was worth
the wait !

The time is 1 a.m. here in England and I've just returned home from the
Monkees' first (of two) sold out 30th anniversary concert at London's Wembley
Arena.

Highlight of an excellent show was the closing number, pre-encores. Yup,
Daydream Believer. 9,000 people in the audience singing along at top volume,
word perfect. They may have been happy rather than funky.....but who really
cares ? Michael Nesmith and co also paid generous tribute to John and the
other songwriters who wrote the group's 1960s hits. Long may the song
continue to pay the rent.

Bloodliners will, I'm sure, be interested to know that the Monkees have
played at all the UK's major cities this time round and there is a new hits
compilation CD/MC which of course contains Daydream Believer and is already
in the UK top 30 album chart.

I know its late, but I can't right now name any other chart band from the
mid-sixties who are still performing together, with all the original members.

Subj:	Re: KT Influence
Date:	97-03-19
From:	PeterB1103@aol.com

Since John has been my favorite songwriter and performer, bar none, for
almost 30 years, I am amazed at how the discussions in this space have
enriched my own enjoyment and understanding of the music I already knew so
well (or thought I did). I agree that with effort--meaning concentration and
repeated listening, not hard work--you can always find more in even the most
familiar JS lyrics. Isn't that what defines great art? You can look at a
truly great painting for the 1,000th time and find new meaning and
inspiration. It endures, it never exhausts the viewer, and it continues to
educate. There is nothing dated or stale about "Earth Rider", or "Wild Horse
Road", or "Anna on a Memory" or "Josie."

Someone commented also, some time ago, about how the brilliance of John's
lyrics might cause a casual listener to overlook the crafting of the songs.
They endure because they are put together just right--perfect marriages of
lyrics to melody. You can listen to "Dreamers on the Rise" or "Cheyenne" or
"You Can't Look Back" any number of times and never get tired of them. I
can't think of another writer about whom that can be said.

Finally--Whoever recently recommended Norma Waterson's album--and said it had
the "feel" of a John Stewart album although the music was very different from
John's--was absolutely right. It's marvelous. In that same vein, you might
want to check out "Unreal City" by Elliott Murphy--harder-edged than John's
music but, like John's, a compelling blend of nostalgia, occasional despair,
and wide-eyed wonderment (kind of like Paul Simon's "Boy in the Bubble").

Sorry this is so long. Regards to all.

One small question: Is the musician in question the same Elliot Murphy of
the long blond hair? If so, he drove his car up onto the side walk and
almost ran me (and a few other friends) over, in front of Max's Kansas City.
He wasn't playing that night; just showing off. Yikes....it's hard to
believe how long ago that was!

The one, the only and the original Four Tops -- Levi, OB, Duke and Larry --
have performed continuously without personnel change for 40 years.

I know this because I may be the only person on planet Earth whose two
favorite music makers of all time are John Stewart and the Four Tops.

As odd a pairing as that might seem, they did intersect briefly. The Four Tops
are among the many acts who have recorded ``Daydream Believer.'' They also
sang ``happy'' rather than ``funky.'' Which is particularly odd, because if
ever there was a man who could sing funky, it is the incomparable Levi
Stubbs, for my money the greatest voice of the rock era.
