Subj:	Tues Nite chat-New Year/Old Year
Date:	97-01-01
From:	ClackClack@aol.com

Well folks,

First off I want to mention for the AOL gang that the first chat of 1997 is
planned for January 7 at 6:30 Pacific. Go to People Connection or keyword
chat, click on private rooms, type in neonroad and you are there. To start
the New Year with a bang I've invited a special guest to the chat who is
looking forward to joining us. How about a real big clue- this one is easy.
She and John have danced with the tiger. Join us if you can. I plan to post a
log to the Chat Room in Clack's Cellar for the non-AOL people (and those who
miss of course). I've also added a couple new photos to the photo gallery at
the Cellar and some other odd bits. Will be adding more soon.

1996 was a great year musically. Got to connect with this legion of Stewart
fans out here on the net in newsgroups, mailing lists and on AOL. 1996 saw
three Stewart web pages go up, and the Bloodlines mailing list was launched
which helps us all stay connected, stay on top of the news, get concert
reports, exchange trivia, tales, and fill-in-the-blanks. We had several fun
chats on AOL. Got Rough Sketches out on cassette. I picked up several items
missing from my collection such as Bandera and Essential John & Buffy CD's,
Teresa and Rocket Roy, and the Children of the Morning CD.(To tell the truth
the CD reminds me that it was time for the Trio to move on then). I saw three
full fledged shows in Feb, April and December, plus the Border's mini-gig.
Got to meet and talk with John & Dave and a number of Bloodliners. A good
year.

1997 starts with us looking forward to Rough Sketches on CD. Folk Opera in
the works. Trio reissues hopefully out of Germany. If we're lucky maybe a
house concert or two. I think Buffy has a CD in the works still- let us hope
that comes out. From the good songs I heard last month maybe J & B will give
us (on cassette at least) a Christmas release. Bloodlines continues to grow.
I plan to try and have a regular chat schedule on AOL. First Tuesday of each
month at 6:30 Pacific in room neonroad. That way maybe a few more of us will
be able to check in as our schedules allow.

Take care all. Ron

Dreamers on the Rise

Happy new year to everyone--Peter

From:	Ddumail@aol.com

Peter's post about "Mother Country" reminds me of the first time I had seen
John in concert. (Actually it was the first time I'd ever heard of him too,
but that's ANOTHER story altogether).

Anyway, another clueless friend and I are at a JS concert in Denver. John and
"Dave" have been playing some great songs and we are informed that JS wrote
"Daydream Believer" and "Gold". "OK", I thought, "that puts things into some
perspective". I mentally transport myself back to junior high for a moment,
and then return to the concert.

Then Dave starts this bass line and about 2 bars into it, I hear all these
whoops and hollers, mostly from the over 45 male part of the audience. John
starts to say the introduction and everyone in the room was sayin it with
him! "There was a story in the San Francisco Chronicle that of course I forgot
to save..."

Me and my buddy are looking around us, incredulously. What IS this? They know
what he's gonna say before he says it. Incredible, I thought. Until later
that week when I knew all the words to that song/story too. Ahem.

AND, I remember a review of that song in , say, 1969 and the reviewer

before I die, I can hear JS in concert.

Mike's post made me remember a while back to about 1990, I believe. John
played at Elario's in La Jolla, CA....two shows, two nights! I was at every
one, which you may have seen me mention before. But what I remember most
about those shows was John playing the BANJO! I've seen John approximately
20-25 times since 1986, and ONLY in La Jolla have I seen him play banjo. It
was WONDERFUL....I can't remember now what tunes he played, but I just
remember that him playing the banjo just sent me into the stratosphere!

John, when you come back to Monsoon's in Flagstaff, do you think you could
please dust off the ol' banjo and pick a few for me?????

Townes Van Zandt was a Texas singer songwriter who wrote great songs
including "Pancho & Lefty" (Willie recorded it). John and I did a tour in
'91 of England/Scotland/Ireland with Townes, Guy Clark, and Peter Rowan.
Townes was quite a character notorious for his drinking a little too much
before he would take the stage. Those 10-12 days on the road were
priceless...lot of fun and adventures. Each artist would play 30 to 40
minutes and then everyone would take the stage for the finale...that was the
adventure part of the gig as you never knew what songs or what keys. But
once we got the hang of it, that was the fun. Everything from "Dark as a
Dungeon" to Guy's "Tomato" song to Townes "White Freightliner Blues" to
"Sloop John B" to "Patriot Game" in Ireland to whatever song the crowd
yelled out...and they yelled until 3 AM in Roscrae, Ireland...it was a grand
tour....and I got to hang right in the middle of it....brilliant. John said
Towne's writing was "seamless". Townes wrote some the saddest, heart felt,
gut wrenching songs...he'll be missed but his music is out there.
