Has anyone had any luck mailing LP records lately? About a year ago a friend of
mine ordered one in the mail and it was slightly warped. It is entirely possible
that the record was warped before it was mailed.

The post office doesn't even have stamps for mailing records anymore. Just
thought I'd ask for some advice because I'm mailing one out this week. I can
still get the LP mailers ('boxes'), they are a little over a $1.

Hi Luke,
Gotta confess....Gary Lewis & the Playboys did some classics. "Everybody
loves a clown" and "Count me In"...cool songs. Did you know that Leon
Russell did the keyboard work on most of their stuff. He's also the
"Russell" who co-wrote alot of their work.

Initially the song is about some tragic loss of love, MacArthur
Park was a place that held some significance in the relationship.
There are supposed to be double meanings throughout the song,
darned if I can find more than a couple. It seems pretty straightforward,
about all the vivid memories of this lost love, and it is over, and he
will get on with his life and find other loves, but this will be
the 'one'

Hey,

A lot of musical taste is like taste in food. If I had a friend who insisted
that he didn't like Spinach, and I sat him down in front of a bowl of
steamed spinach and said, "What do you mean you don't like Spinach? try
this..." He/she tries the spinach and says "I don't like it" Would I be
inscenced? no. Funny how we can be inscenced, however, if someone doesn't
like our music.

Now, after sitting half a dozen Spinach dishes in front of the friend over a
period of time and I get to, say, spinach quiche or spinache tortellini, and
my friend might say, "hey, this isn't so bad..." They just had to try it
prepared in a different way.

Music isn't that different (IMO).

Hey, When I was 6 my favorite record was goofy singing "Laugh, Laugh, Laugh,
and the whole world laughs with you..." Do you hear me apologizing? Do you
think I feel guilty?" You should never be embarassed at having enjoyed your
childhood and adolesence I used to like Styx, and I still have my Styx records
even though I haven't listend to them yet this decade. :-)

Nick-
DON'T use the post office to mail LPs. In many central post offices the
machinery they use subjects even large, semi-rigid envelopes to bending
if they are thin enough to be put in the track used by the scanners and
sorters (this is word from a USPS [US Postal Service] employee I know).
So bending will take place if the package can be bent.
Either use an inflexible box thicker (say, like a small pizza box in
depth) than the typical LP carboard folder or one of the other delivery
services: UPS or FedEx.

Well.....

Steve (lobo) gets to join that select group of Bloodliners who have been
publicly dissed by the man. Welcome to the club. There's free nachos on the
counter.

I agree and disagree on Steve's take on this medium of exchange.. the
internet, Bloodlines, mailing lists, message boards, etc. I happen to think
it is a way to open communication tremendously. But like anything it has its
dangers. God forbid we need to stick smiley faces or tongue in cheek smileys
on all our posts. When Lobo posted his worst list I cracked up. Here was a
guy, just for fun, throwing out some icons. He did not deserve to be rabbit
punched.

If I may be so bold, I remember a certain duo with the initials CW and JS who
used to do an outrageous parody of Neil Young and Bob Dylan selling out and
becoming Vegas lounge lizards. CW's crooning ala Neil Young doing "Moon
River" ranks up there as one of the most hysterical things I have ever heard.
I don't recall anyone hollering then about disparaging idols.

And although I also believe that Sting's ego may be bigger than all of ours
combined, I also agree that he is one great artist and song stylist. Sure not
everything works, but I agree that "Every Breath You Take" is one of the best
songs ever done.

So folks, lose the mustache and try and be a little more nice. We're all in
this together.

Steve,

I have been using email for about 14 years, long before the internet craze.
I agree that it is a difficult vehicle for carrying on conversations, due
to not being able to read tone, body language, etc. I thought the "worst
of" list was intended to be a humorous list. I agree with many of the
postings and don't agree with others. Heck, there are even JS songs I
don't care for (watchout flamers). I enjoy your comments and sardonic
humor. Stay with it and watch your six.

New string, folks, building on a couple of offerings that have already
surface (you are NOT alone, Nanci!) - what songs DID you like that you
now cringe to hear or hope that no one will ever know you liked? Call it
"skeletons in the closet music", if you will.

For me, there's a ton of stuff. In terms of performers and their songs
that were popular hits, how about:

Freddy and The Dreamers - yes, "I'm Henry the Eighth" used to circle in
my head for days at a time. I think it may have been a neurological
disorder...<g>. It got so bad I would do the "Freddy" (and all of you
who remember that "dance" step, shame on you, and for those of you who
can still do it, the line forms on the left for medication...).

I'll come up with others later; there's just so much confessional
material I can handle at a time...

Take care,

The mailers I get are fairly thick cardboard, and can be bent to hold from 1 to
6 LPs. The Post Office used to have a ruber stamp that said "record album"
or something similar and such packages were handled differently from the rest of
the mail. I'll use UPS or else insure it for about $100 ;-)

It's got to the stage where I can no longer find who said what about

Can we keep to a single subject per 'Subject' and start new threads for

Not to turn this into a UFO group, but regarding Roswell, I gotta say that
IMHO, while John wrote a terrific song about what might have happened in
Roswell, the current issue of Time pretty effectively refutes the argument
that aliens and spaceships were landing in New Mexico. Yes, the govt. had a
secret little project monitoring the Soviets and apparently was doing some
crash testing they didn't want to talk about at the time. But spaceships and
little aliens? I don't think so.

It's cool that John will be out there on the 50th anniversay singing about
it, though.

Just for the heck of it, I did a search on Roswell UFO Encounter 97 and
came up with MANY sites, found one that is pretty interesting. It has
reproductions of the newspaper accounts of what supposedly happened
which show how much the information changed from day 1 to day 2 and to

Harry could hit 3 octaves and do it with clarity that amazed me.
Trouble is that he destroyed that voice in 1974. John's a great
