Hi Mike,
Yes indeed!!! It is available on Compact Disc. Sorry, don't have a catalog
number, but should be obtainable at any CD outlest...might have to special
order it though. Good luck!!! Never thought about Stills and Mason
sounding the same....maybe "4 & 20" These days, though, Stills sounds more
like Tom Waits.

Well I see this list thing has gotten WAY OUT OF HAND so I'm gonna
attempt to throw something else into the works. Does anyone know if their
local radio stations play John's stuff? I live in the San Francisco area
and I know of only one that play trio stuff. KABL plays "Where have all
the flowers gone" a lot but nothing more from the Stewart years. I plan
to contact them soon and suggest more interesting titles. Let us know
what plays in your states.

Dear Merle,

Hey thanks for the offer of "Fire". Have it covered thanks.

Thanks for the address. Pleased to meet another 'Fire' fan. That was my
first John Stewart Album. All of John's RSO recordings (at least the LPs
which are all I have) are of very high quality. The engineering/mixing
is also impeccable for that period in time (IMO).

Hello all-

One of the greatest folksingers of all time was Kate Wolf, who passed away 10
years ago. She left a treasure of recordings and songs and should be on
everyone's favorite artists list.

There's a Kate Wolf folk festival in Sebastopol (Calif) this weekend. It is a
2 day all day affair. I'll be there on Saturday only with the family. Eric
Bogle ("The Band Played Waltzing Matilda") will be there from Australia as
well as Utah Phillips and Dar WiIliams ("When I Was a Boy" "As Cool As I Am")
and Greg Brown. Is anyone else going? Drop me a line privately if you are
and maybe we could say hey.

Hey, I finally found a clean copy of "Willard" today. Know what else I
found? A poster inside the album, I had no idea there was supposed to be
a poster in there.

Found it at: Used Kid's Records, 1992 N. High in Columbus, OH, in "the Annex".
Their folk collection is unusually thick this month.

Try KPIG out of Watsonville. 107.5 FM. Have heard JS played in the

Subject: Update

I don't post very often due to time constraints, but I try to read as many
posts as I can. I think this list is great.

If you've been on the list a few months, you might remember that I'm the one
who made the faux pas substituting "Ruby" for "July" in talking about John's
song. Also, my husband really appreciated all of you who responded regarding
the origins of "Cody." I gave my husband the book The Red Pony for his
birthday, and when he finished the it, he said he now understood better the
emotions underlying "Cody." But, Cody is still one of those songs, like John
does, that is eerily real. Ya know what I mean?

Well, tonight we were listening (again) to the Phoenix Concert. Well, this
is an amazingly good recording of a live concert. John was in top form, and
his renditions of his songs are some of the best recorded, in our opinion.
John is, I believe, the most soulful folk singer ever, and the Phoneix
concert is testement to this.

And so, we decided to give the Phoenix Concert CD to one of our best friends
who is having a birthday in September. This friend is actually the one who
introduced John to my husband back in the 60's, but he hasn't kept up with
John, although he still listens to California Bloodlines and has seen him in
concert more times than we have. So, we thought he might appreciate this CD.

However, when we go to our local music store to order John Stewart CDs, they
treat us like we're from Pluto. I don't remember who, but someone on the
list can get John Stewart CDs. I want to order this, so please tell me whom
to contact.

And then, for those who are parents . . . my daughter (just turned 11 years)
is very musical -- she sings and plays the piano, but her instrument of
choice for the past few years is the clarinet. She is in the school
orchestra, plays by ear, and loves all classical music. But recently she's
been enthralled by The Spice Girls and now the Hansons. I think their music
is OK, even pretty good sometimes, but nothing to get excited about. I can't
believe my daughter can like this music. Is this a passing phase or what?
Should I tolerate this or try to convince her of her better instincts?

The poster in 'Willard' is 11" x 22" and it is a BW montage of 9 pictures,
mostly of a young John Stewart and his band, and there are 2 pictures of John's
back and other members of the band. He is wearing a denim-like shirt and a
bandana around his neck. My girlfriend thinks that they are especially 'cute'
pictures and she likes his 'boyish smile',(women, who can figure them?! ;-).

My copy doesn't fold, I guess it isn't an original press like I thought. I do
have a folding copy of 'Cannons' There is a picture of John there in a hat with
his guitar and a sticky name tag with "Performer" stamped on it on his shirt
pocket. It is from the library of a radio station called WKYX, anybody know
where that is? there is a note on it that says:

"between country and folk, on the tube once" and next to "Armstrong" it says
'don't play this one'.

I also have Punch the Big Guy with the Picture Sleeve, John Signed it for me
in Kent, Ohio last year. I'll try to scan it in for you at work, or find
you another one.

Rustic bar........front door always open... trains going by, whistles

Just want to be sure everyone going to Anderson's Fifth Estate in Scottsdale

And in light of the great review John got in Thursday's Arizona Republic's

complete with the headline "'70s Folk Hero Plays Scottsdale Club" - anyone
planning on going: either phone order your tickets or plan to be there as
early as you can. Tickets should still be available at the door.

See everyone Sunday...bringing the 'li'l angel' (daughter)!...Nancy, am

Subject: Rare KT & Folk records

Hello again,

For the second day in a row I have cme up with some astonishing finds. If
anyone is looking for rare folk LPs Let me know, because there is a bonanza in
Columbus, Ohio right now. Today I went to "Goldmine Records" and I found
a sealed copy of Homecoming, MINT copies of: Sunstorm, and The Phoenix
Concerts Live.

I also found a MINT original Decca copy of the KT first album. I already have
this one and I am willing to sell it if anyone is interested. I don't make a
profit, only the cost of the record, plus a box, plus postage, and I'll send
the receipts.

I also found 3 MINT Phil Ochs records --in one day--, (I'll tape them, but
I'm not ready to sell them yet, they are: Chords of Fame, Pleasures of the
Harbor,
and 'In Concert', I'm not sure how much of his stuff is out on CD yet). I
also found two mint Jimmie Spheris LPs and I have a copy of "Isle of View" that
I'm willing to part with.

There is a lot of Steeleye Span around right now, they must have come out on
CD recently. More KT, and a lot of others. Let me know if you can't find
something, and I'll make a list and try to get as much as I can reasonably
get to. One dealer just bought out 2 stores, one in upstate NY and one in NH
and
he's loaded with folk (Including Tom Rush).

I have a very clean copy of Willard (no poster) and an extra copy of
Wingless Angels too.

In defense of Neil Young I would just like to say that his songs have always
held a certain beauty, and meaning for me. His voice is unique, and
distinctive, as is John's and Stephen Stills' (he's # 2 on my list).
Perhaps that's why I'm attracted to these artists.

Neil's concern and respect for humanity has been demonstrated, not only
through his lyrics, but through his deeds as well.

I know there are others in our group, including, I think, John, who would
agree with me that Neil Young is one of the premier singer-songwriters of our

Just a suggestion, Karen, for what it's worth, but let her find her own
taste in music, let her grow, experience different rhythms, tones, notes ...
and she'll be more grateful to you and (most importantly) enjoy music more
than if you force anything on her. Let her hear John whenever possible and
if you're lucky, she might take after you.
After all, just be thankful she enjoys any form of music.
Good luck.

Father's Day doesn't mean much to me: I've no offspring, and I can't tell
my dad anything any more. His body has yet to shuffle off this mortal
coil, but his mind departed it some years ago.

But perhaps if I second this recommendation, and mention the excellence of
many Steve Goodman songs, the man might make it onto Nick's "profile list"
ver. 4.0?

Glad someone offered a kind word for Ms. Nyro. A recent premature loss as
sad as that of Mr. Goodman.

I've noticed talk of a lyrics/pictures insert in Willard. I didn't get one
in my copy, but I guess I can go on living without it. But I was wondering
if there might have been anything similar in the very first issues of
Signals and Bloodlines. They seem singularly short on info.

"My Boy" and the other Jimmy Webb albums Richard Harris sang still hold fond

Bad news though, I was listening to Garrison Keeler tonight, and he had a
guest who as a nespaper comunist or something, and this guy had asked his
readers to ring in with their 'worst songs', not unlike what was going on

the excessive airplay was one reason that people tired of this song.
