You are so right about the photograph, Kent. On the back of the Lonesome
Picker album you will find my All-TIME FAVORITE photo of John and the
beautiful Buffy. Everyone should see it. Could it get posted in Clack's
Cellar??
Okay, the East Coast needs more Buffy. I can understand that. Meanwhile,
the West Coast needs Rosanne. John, you've sung in Santa Cruz with Buffy
(we loved it and are expecting her to be with you in Capitola) and
you've sung in Santa Cruz with Nanci, when will you sing in Santa Cruz
with Rosanne?

It is a nice pic. One of many. With the able assistance of PJ maybe we could
do a high quality cut of the album photo.... PJ??

I think Rosanne generally tours in the summer. Maybe when she hits the west
coast something could be done??? ahem.

Bob....
Some of us that are using AOL scan thru the KT3 folder on AOL's MMC
(MusicSpace Message Center) on a pretty regular basis, including Clack and
Susan.
I'll post your question re. the Columbus Towers Tapes in that folder tonite.
. .plus the "Folk Music Chat" folder on another MMC board. We'll keep a
lookout for an answer. . .and post it here - and to your email - if we find
out. Of course, anyone else on AOL lurking thru these folders is certainly
welcome to help out. . . .
Also, Ian and Allan Shaw back at Folk Era just might know. . .Ian, if you're
reading this, any clues?

Subj: Club Passim --- Cambridge
Date: 97-04-12
From: MARGIE104@aol.com
Hello Everyone!
Dave came out to tune his guitar and introduced himself to me, this was the
first time that I had met him. Because of our "Seattle, Mister" badges,
other bloodliners were very easy to locate. Roy and a friend, Phil and a few
friends, and Pat and I represented the bloodliners.....an impressive crowd,
if I do say so myself!
Here is the lowdown on a great show..........
John came out and introduced Dave as "Friend of the working girl." Big
laughs.
Also added that he was supposed to play here in 1976 but he got lost and
finally made it!
Opened with Johnny Flamingo (sounded great!), She Believes in Me, Voices
Irrisistable Targets, "Black Sky" ----You simply must hear this one! The
world needs to hear! Great song!
Wingless Angels, Children of the New Frontier, Dreamers on the Rise, Anna
Keeper of the Flame, Shadows of the Angels Wings,
Then a "trilogy" -- Bloodlines, The road is my Woman, and Because of a
Dancer.
Break.......Then second set:
River running Free, Interview, July, Neon Road, Renegade Rising, Cowboy in
the Distance, Miranda, Mac Brasel's Farm,
He then sang what he told us was part of a trilogy he did when he wrote
Daydream Believer......Do You Have a Place I Can Hide? .....Really cute!
Daydream Believer, Runaway Fool in Love, Let the Big Horse Run,
And last , a new one , seemed as though dave didn't even know ... Best is Yet
to Come...Another great one, I can't wait for you to hear it also.
John was a riot.......offering some opinions about Calvin Kline ......Ahem.
Gotta Run!!!!!!! Margie

Marge,
It was really nice to meet you...and Roy as well! What a fabulous
evening...The last thing I said to John...We don't want to leave you! I don't
know how he does it...4 shows in a row...flipping from NY to MA each night
and he doesn't miss a beat. JS was even funnier in Cambridge than N
Hamtpon...Maybe N Hampton is a more serious town...lol...I loved the line of
getting lost enroute to Cambridge in 76...it mellowed me right off....I
always think of driving in Downtown Boston like that old folky railroad
song...Will he ever Return? It was just so cool to get see JS & DB twice in
the same week...It was like taking a quantum leap on my John Stewart Music
History! I must say I was nervous after the gig when I Asked John...Wasn't
Freeway Pleasure written in 1971 as part of The Lonsome Picker Record...(JS
mentioned last night he wrote it 1972)...But sir that was Sunstorm in
1972...I may be a student on the new material but I know my 70's stuff..As a
kid I could have told you the order of every cut and just about every
word...I would have said Shaving Razor's Cold though probably...That was cool
when John looked at Dave and said yeah I guess it was 71! The journey down
route 66 reminded me of many a trip through Joplin, Mo..on my way through St
Louis heading home to Pittsburgh or Maine from Texas...John thanks for taking
that picture with my childhood friend Andy...needless to say he's a happy
camper! I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at Passims...more than
Ironhorse.I enjoyed having the 2 sets instead of having the 1 long set. (As
I'm typing this I'm listening to my Maine theme song...You Can't Look
Back)..I hope the picture of the Passim Bloodliners comes out okay and we are
able to post it on the Web so West can meet East! It may be a while before
this Yankee is able to make it out to the West Coast. Dave...it was really
nice meeting you as well...My mouth pactically fell on Palmer Street last
night when I thanked you again...and you said thanks Phil...That was way
cool...You as your partner....needless to say are a class act...and how
tempting it would be to get in the car now and go to Pawling..but I guess
I'll have to wait till the next trip East...Thanks again for coming up to New
England and please return soon...I know I don't want to have wait another 10
years to see y'all!

My wife claims I'm going deaf. She heard it as "cold" and I heard it as
"old."
So guess who's going deaf?

John and Dave were about as good as I've ever seen them. There was a good
crowd aprox. 80 to 100 and they liked
what they heard. I can recommend Club Passim for food, prices and as good
room to see this kind of a show. Bloodliners
all had home made badges- there were 5 or 6 of us and 3 (with me) adopted
for the evening. I hope Margie was keeping
a set list, my list got a little weird during the second set. Bloodliners
moved down front and I became ' the guy in the front
John picks on'. After the show Dave thanked me for taking the pressure off
of him. Dave helped us get John Back for some
pictures and as soon as I get them developed I'll send them along to either
Michelle or Ron to be scanned for the rest of
you to see. (I need a snail mail address from someone. Michelle? Ron? )
John looked and sounded well, and seemed more relaxed with the crowd than a
few years ago. Maybe an Angel really did
tell him to 'Lose the mustache and try to be a little more nice'. (Or
maybe it's the DHEA)
We got back from Boston about 1 am and I got to bed around 3:30. Working
the next day delayed this note until Sunday.
I hope the show tonight is as good as Friday.
Set List as I got it - Margie - correct this as needed
First Set
Johnny Flamingo on the Blue Dream Road
She Believes in Me
Ticket to the Stars
Irresistable Targets
Star in a Black Sky Shining
Wingless Angels/Survivors (New Lyrics)
Children of the New Frontier
Dreamers on the Rise
Anna on a Memory
Keeper of the Flame
Second Set (Margie this really needs correction)
Shadows of the Angels Wings
California Bloodlines
Freeway Pleasure/Because of a Dancer
The River
Interview with an Angel (I kept hoping Buffy would somehow materialize)
July You're a Woman
Neon Road
Renegade Night (anyone have the correct title to this?)
Cowboy in the Distance
Mac Brasel's Farm
Daydream Believer (plus bits of songs of John's that never made it)
Runaway Fool of Love
The Best is Yet to Come (New song, the title is my guess)
Right now I'm listening to the Rough Sketches CD - thank you John, thank
you Ian
I hope Folk-Era continues the relationship with John & Homecoming.
Note to John - we need copies of Buffy's tape.
Note to Ian - Dave Batti has a credit on the R/S CD, but he claims he never
played on it.
Is John just being nice? Is Dave slipping into alzheimers? Is it a typo?
Sorry for being so long winded, but I needed it.
The night, of course, should have lasted longer. But I feel John will be
back to Boston,
and the last song was right - The Best is Yet to Come

Margie, Roy, Phil -
Sounds like you all had an unforgetable evening. Thanks for sharing it
with us. Hoping to see a photo of your group.
Roy wrote "(I kept hoping Buffy would somehow materialize)". You know
Roy, I bet Buffy COULD have materialized had she well felt like it.

Thank you from Springfield, MA (KShep87309) for update on Boston song-visit.
I saw him last week in Northampton and am still walking on rainbows from the
sensations of his music, words, voice, and presence. Try to remind him how
great the song "Lonesome Picker" is! I tried to cry out the title to him at
Iron Horse in Northampton but I guess he didn't hear. He did some other
greats though so I felt okay, but I wish he would reawaken Lonesome Picker.
Keep up the news and updates, and thanks. KShep87309

Marge,
There were so many classic JS lines...but how bout after doing the "Ticket to
the Stars"....again Bloodliners I'm not sure of the actual title as this is a
new song for me....John said...."I guess the Heaven's Gate People took this
song literally"...

Subj: Buffy East Coast Sightings
Date: 97-04-13
From: RoyFritz@compuserve.com (Roy Fritz)
Buffy also showed up with John (without Dave)
at the Old Vienna Koffeehouse (Westboro Mass) in May of 96.
They were on their way back from Europe and this was
when I got my autographed Buffy tape 'Rue de Jacob'
- which we need more of (hint - John, Ian ) Also the first time
I heard Neon Road, Mac Brasel, Johnny Flamingo, etc.
As the left-coasters know, she is as beautiful as her voice.
She seems to radiate. Her version of Wagoner's Lad is better
than the Kingston trio and The Four Marys (an old scottish ballad)
is fantastic. She and John were kind enough to do 'Sing My Heart Away'
as an encore for me.
Question for Angelbravo - Luke had a band when you were in Virginia.
Is he still playing? Is there a new band?
If you're drivin' on the highway...
Roy
