From:	i.ashton@Bradford.ac.uk (Ian Ashton)

For members on this (UK) side of the pond

I ordered Rough Sketches from
 (http://www.folkera.com)

It took exactly one week to arrive. They thoughtfully ticked the gift section
of the customs declaration so I didn't get charged import duty or VAT.

Details of how to join this list are in the booklet - a nice touch I think.

Hi

Has anyone heard of the Columbus Towers Tapes? If so, any info would
be appreciated.

Is it possible that they are another name for the KT Screen Gem Demos
of the late sixties?

Subj:	Re: Turning Point show
Date:	97-04-11
From:	PLong27@aol.com

Before the show began at the Turning Point in Piermont, NY I was talking
with a few people around me complaining that John never brings Buffy to his
East Coast shows. A few minutes later John walked in with Roseanne Cash. I
guess this is a fair tradeoff - the left coast people get to hear Buffy and
the right coast people get to hear Roseanne.

But anyway John - how come Buffy never comes here? Does she have an
aversion to the East Coast?

I had never been to the Turning Point before and was impressed with both
the town of Piermont and the club. There has been a lot of talk about house
concerts on Bloodlines, but seeing John at the Turning Point was almost like a
house concert because it was so small. It was also great to hear an over 2
hour "Evening with John Stewart" rather than have an opening act and hear 70
minutes of John.

Subj:	Re: North Hampton
Date:	97-04-11
From:	JACBirch@aol.com

Just a bit of correction and edification: the Iron Horse set opened with
"Johnny Flamingo on the Blue Dream Road" and "Ticket to the Stars." "Black
Sky Shining" was the fifth tune (sixth, if you count the "Wingless
Angels/Survivors" medley as one). John did "Irresistible Targets" before
"Dreamers." He also did a new song called "Renegade Rising" which blew me
away. He did "Pirates" as the second half of a medley with "Ghost of the
Superchief."

Also...I saw him last night at the Caffe Lena. He did a lot of the same
songs (I didn't think to bring a pen to write them all down), but also did
"California Bloodlines/Chilly Winds," "She Believes in Me," "Fire in the
Wind" (Dave's choice to open the second set) and several others I can't
recall. The Caffe Lena show was more relaxed and chatty, and thus more
personable. Oddly, John seemed to switch guitar preferences from one show to
the next, playing some songs with his 6-string one show, 12-string the next,
and vice-versa.

A memorable two nights. I followed Hale-Bopp home along the Mass. Turnpike
the first night, and wanted to hear John's dad's account of Halley. Met some
great Stewartistas at both shows. Bought "Rough Sketches" on CD and played
it all the way home from Saratoga Springs (thanks to Dave for the tip about
the $5 extra the Iron Horse wanted for each disk).

region back in the seventies..ofcourse we were in diapers than..lol...We are
fixing(still do that Texas thing) to be there (Cambridge) around suppah time
because we have no clue when the gig starts...when you call Passims you can
only reserve tickets on the phone and they don't' tell you when the show

He did bring Buffy to east coast shows last year. A great treat as
this was the first time I got to see her in concert with John.

Or maybe they weren't shaving yet!

"cold" never made any sense, but "old" does.

Yes, was there. Great show as always. Great touch blending Ghost of
the Super Chief into Pirates of Stone County Road - very cool.

Not sure if I can make it to tonight's show. Having triplets can
     limit such things some times.

"Ghost of the Super Chief" mentions Riverside's Mission Inn.

I'll bet I'm one of the few who knows what he's talking about and has
stayed there.

I had a triplet, but I sold it a few years ago.

Thanks for the kind words about us getting it right out. We try :>)

Also - thanks to Michelle and John - it was by their kind permission
that the bloodlines subscription info is included in the booklet.

We all know we'd like nothing more than to see the numbers of fans
grow, and bloodlines is a wonderful place for that.

I agree,a great new song - in my report of the Peirmont show I could
not come up with the name - a real upbeat rocker...

My theory on this is that Davy was too young to have an OLD razor.

John, you mentioned a book as the inspiration for "Star in a Dark Sky
Shining" , but it went by too fast--I don't seem to have it in my "notes"
-- would you post the title and author? Thanks.

Subj:	East Coast shows
Date:	97-04-11
From:	delausa@mailbox.syr.edu (Del Lausa)

I just returned from seeing John and Dave at Northampton and Saratoga
Springs. (Good meeting some of you there!) Both were enjoyable shows, but
at the Cafe Lena in Saratoga Springs, where John was billed as "the
greatest living folk artist," and introduced as a "legend," he earned both
appelations and then some. In fact, I think it was the best performance
I've seen John give. The Cafe Lena is an intimate (read cramped) little
place that *felt* like a house concert. John and Dave seemed to be having
fun, and I know the rest of us did. Not as many folks from the list at Cafe
Lena as there were in Northampton, but a couple of us were there. John and
Dave were gracious and friendly, as ever.

Highlights for me were hearing new songs like "Cowboy in the Distance",
"Renegade Rising" (?), and "Star in a Black Sky Shining" (every bit as good
as others have said); and hearing an "updated" version of "Wingless
Angels"/"Survivors', that I'm guessing/hoping is a preview for the upcoming
Darwin's Army "Angels" CD. And John and Dave were breathtaking on "Eyes of
Sweet Virginina."

The set list for Cafe Lena (or a close approximation thereof ) follows.
Set 1: Johnny Flamingo and the Blue Dream Road, Strange Rivers,Wingless
Angels/Survivors, Ticket to the Stars, Star in the Dark Sky Shining,Keeper
of the Flame, Cowboy in the Distance, July, Shadows of the Angels' Wings,
She Believes in Me, Freeway Pleasure, CA Bloodlines/Chilly Winds
(appropriate with 15 windchills that day) //// Set 2: Fire in the Wind,
Runaway Fool of Love (Dave sounded especially good on this one), Eyes of
Sweet Virginia, Children of the New Frontier, Dreamers on the Rise, China
Sky, irresistable Targets, Let the Big Horse Run, Lost Her in the Sun,
Miranda/Dogs of San Jon, Day Dream Believer /// Encore: All Along the
Watchtower (Dylan), Mazatlan, Ghost of the Superchief/Pirates of Stone
County Road.

Hope you all enjoy the remaining shows.

If anyone out there is on AOL, you can very simply save ALL your messages.
All you have to do is go to "preferences," and indicate that you want
everything saved to your "personal filing cabinet." Then, you can read mail
at your leisure, and delete or save as you so choose.

BTW, anyone from LI going to Pawling Sunday night?

songs. Darwin's Army did a Dylan song.
Darwin's Army is a whole other thing. Don't confuse the two.

Bloodliners,

Buffy accompanied JS at his shows at Penn State in Media, PA in 1992 and
1993. In 1993 their son Luke also joined them and played guitar on Dylan's
"All Along the Watchtower". There are pictures posted from one of these
shows in the photo gallery in Clack's Cellar.
