I should have warned you all and didn't even think about it...

Having been to many of John's "double header" shows...i.e. two shows in one
night, there are ALWAYS many differences....you may as well be seeing him on
two different nights in two different towns. ALWAYS get tickets for both
shows and make a night of it....<BG>

And thanks to Greg for filling us in a bit on the songs.
Of course there will never be anything like hearing them live. Maybe next
month I'll be so lucky.

Angelbravo- When you have some downtime I'd be happy to put the lyrics up on
the website if you can email them to me. I saw Rose's note on MMC. Any chance
she'll be playing with you in NY? The Eastern Bloodliners might get lucky....

Welcome to all the new arrivals. Hearing the stories of what John's music
means to us never gets old. And each of you brings something new to share.
Just great.

other groups.

I do not recommend lengthy absences from the cyberworld.

Just back from the show at The Turning Point - YES, Rosanne DID join John on
stage for "Dance with the Tiger" and "Price of the Fire". A real treat that we
are getting used too at Piermont - that's three times in a row that she has been
there.

The overall show was GREAT- can't believe the breath of material included. I did
not keep a set list, but it included much of what was in the McCabe's reports:
``Cowboy in the Distance'' and ``Black Sky Shining.'', my first time hearing
Wingless Angles/ Survivors live, what I think is another new song (very upbeat,
done with help of drum machine)- did not get title, China Sky, The River, Anna
on a Memory, and on and on.............

A really terrific night (as I have come to expect from any of John's shows -and
I'm never disappointed).

When John asked who was on the internet I think there were about three of us who
responded. Dave brought and passed out a sheet telling people how to access the
internet sites, AOL board and Bloodlines - we may be growing even faster as the
tour continues.

From:	cambria@telis.org (Lee Bittner)

It's about high time that I wrote a little something, as I've been
reading and gathering so much info for the last week from you all.
I was introduced to JS back when Bloodlines first came out, and even own
a Signals album (anyone know why it never made it to cd?), and own a
large number of other albums. Somewhere after Wingless Angels I moved to
this small central coastal Calif. town and lost track of a lot of my
musical roots. I had seen JS many times in the SF Bay Area, at many
places, probably the most at a place called Chuck's Cellar in Los Altos.
I never thought to run a web search for JS until I got wind of
Homecoming Records last month.
John's poetry, imagery, and musical combinations are quite unique I have
always thought. Possibly the only other artist that I feel meets the
same standard is Bruce Cockburn.
Anyone out there heading to Capitola from San Luis Obispo or south, by
way of Hiway 1?

I'm delighted to say that I will be attending the show in Boston!

Hopefully Angelbravo will see this song list.....and if not, I will certainly
be happy
to listen to anything at all.

Anna on a Memory
Durango
Dreamers on the Rise
Road Away (A personal favorite, I finally purchased my Cannons in the Rain
CD!) "Black Sky Shining" (What bloodliners are calling it, sounds intriguing!)

Just to name a few! If Pat and I can be of any service to you John or Dave,
you can count on us.

Would anyone like to have dinner? We will be having dinner at Club Passim at

6:30 anyone who would like to join us is more than welcome. Or I've heard
some talk of a beer after the show? Let me know.

I'm new to the cyberworld. Are there varying numbers of messages that a
person can have waiting for them? Will your messages be bumped or not
taken if you are not around to read and discard them? Do we need to hire

In my post on April 8 I think I may have referred to "Signals Through

Hello Bloodliners!

After watching what's going on at this E-mail list a couple of
months I would like to present myself. Probably the only one from Norway
receiving this.

First time I saw and heard John Stewart live was in Scotland in
October 1989. I read about this possibly being his last tour to U.K. So I
had a spare holiday and went all by my own. And enjoyed two concerts before
I had to go back to Stavanger, Norway. The concerts were in Edinbourgh and
Perth. I even brought my Walkman recorder to preserve the concerts.

Fortunatly I have been to another concert with John since then. Last
November in London. And it is such an experience that, if possible, that
will not be the last for me.

But I discovered John's music through a review of "The Lonsome
Picker Rides Again" in the the English pop/rockmusic weekly New Musical
Express in 1971/2. And I ordered it from England. At once upon receiving the
LP I played it and it became a very regulary visitor to my record player.
Both the lyrics and the tunes fascinated me, and it still does. And though
the years I have been a very distant admirer of his music, buying what I
could find issued in UK and some even was issued in Scandinavia.

And now I continue enjoying his songs here in Norway, and sometimes
present them on local radio hoping someone else also can find the magic of
John Stewart's music and lyrics.

Yours sincerely
Svein Reidar Myklebust

Catherine:
It all depends on your internet provider as to what the maximum number of
messages they will hold for you and the length of time they will hold them.
If you think you're going to be gone a while on vacation you should certainly
ask your ISP. For one thing, a few have an autobounce feature which can cause
mailing list frenzy when it happens. It hasn't happened to Bloodlines yet
thank goodness. (What happens is an email gets rejected back to the list
which is then resent out and rejected and so on...maybe these things don't
happen anymore?)

Anyways, slowly but surely Bloodlines gets archived to my website so if you
unsubscribed for a three week vacation you would eventually be able to catch
up. The archives are at: http://members.aol.com/clackclack/bloodarc.htm

An attempt at deciphering. These words just blow me away. They are singing in
my head.... -Ron

THE STAR IN THE BLACK SKY SHINING

THERE WAS A WOMAN I SAW ON THE STREET
I SWEAR SHE WAS WEARING THE MOON ON HER FEET.
SHE SAID DO YOU KNOW ME
I SAID,I DON'T KNOW
SHE TOLD ME TO LISTEN AND THEN I COULD GO

SHE SAID I AM THE COURSE THAT THE RIVER IS WINDING
I AM THE HORSE THAT THE ANGEL IS RIDING
I AM THE SOURCE OF THE LOVE YOU ARE FINDING
DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM IT IS BLINDING.
I AM THE STAR IN THE BLACK NIGHT SKY SHINING.

THERE WAS A CHILD I SAW ON THE ROAD
I ASKED, ARE YOU LOST WITH NOWHERE TO GO?
HE SAID, NO I'M NOT BUT I BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE
AND TOLD ME TO SIT ON THE HOOD OF THE CAR.
HE SAID I AM THE CRY OF THE WOMAN WHO IS DYING
I AM THE WINGS OF THE SPARROW WHO IS FLYING
I AM THE HOPE OF THE CHILD WHO IS CRYING.
DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM IT IS BLINDING
I AM THE STAR IN THE BLACK NIGHT SHINING.

THERE WAS A DOG WHO FOLLOWED ME HOME.
HE WAS NOT YOUNG YET NOT FULLY GROWN.
HE SAID, DO YOU KNOW ME WE SPOKE ON THE PHONE.
I AM A KING AND THE WORLD IS MY THRONE.
HE SAID I AM THE FLAME IN THE HEAT OF THE FIRE
I AM TO BLAME FOR THE TONGUE OF A LIAR.
I AM THE SAME AS THE VOICE IN THE WIRE
I COME FROM THE LIGHT IT IS BLINDING.
I AM THE STAR IN THE BLACK NIGHT SKY SHINING.

THERE WAS A THIEF WHO WAS TIED TO A POLE.
AT HIS FEET WAS A LIST OF THE THINGS THAT HE STOLE.
HE SAID I AM ONLY PLAYING A ROLE
AND ASKED IF I DARE LOOK DEEP IN HIS SOUL
HE SAID I AM THE HEART OF THE WARRIOR CHILD
I AM THE MOMENT THE BEAST BECOMES MILD.
I AM THE PART OF THE SOUL THAT IS WILD.
I AM THE ANSWER YOU'RE FINDING.
I AM THE STAR IN THE BLACK SKY SHINING.
I AM THE STAR IN THE BLACK SKY SHINING.

Anybody else at the Iron Horse in Northampton, MA last night?

Great show.

The only other times I've seen John were at the Ice House in Pasadena many
years ago.

It's like a time warp, he really hasn't changed.

Lyrics: In "Daydream Believer" I always thought it was "the shaving razor's
cold and it stings..." But last night it sounded liked "the shaving razor's
OLD and it stings."

Anybody know which is correct?

The Southern California references made me feel like I was there again. El
Monte Legion Stadium, the Mission Inn.

Once at the Ice House he was making some funny remarks about Catholicism.
One of the women with me at that concert was still a nun at that time...no
habit of course.

Wow,
I finally got see my hero after nearly 12 years....saw John and his band than
at Folk City..NYC in I think 85 or 86...Since then I've lived his Music..I've
lived in Misourri...I was a Missouri Bird...and Texas for nearly 7
years...Maybe JS wore that Motel Texas tee shirt thing in my honor? We'll
have to ask him tomorrow..I'm fixing to see him in Cambridge as I'm now a
Mainer or as we say here Mainah! First...I got more than my money worth last
night just listening to his sound check...I may have many of these new song
titles wrong...but JS himself approved this list and said I did just
fine...He did just one long set last night as there was another gig following
him...Something I would never want to do!
59 Cadillac
Spirts Beside you
Wingless Angels/Survivors
Keeper of the Flame
Moon on her Feet
Midnight Sky
Dreamers on the Rise
Children of the New Frontier
Freeway Pleasure
Run Away Fool of Love
One Eyed Joe
July You're a Woman (Slow Version)
Shadow's of the Angels Wing
Neon Road..Highway Home
Renegade Rising
Midnight Wind
The River/China Sky
Anna on a Memory
Day Dream Believer
Encore
Let the Big Horse Run
The Pirate's of Stone County Road (Thought I was in Phoenix in 1974 when he
sang the finale!
I'm still like settling into the whoe experience...I chatted with John after
the gig...got an updated pic....Hey Dave...if you pick up this message...Do
you think John could play either Joe or Roll Away the Stone in Cambridge
tomorrow? Nothing like the electonic touch on requesting a tune! JS was
fantastic and his voice has mellowed with age...See y'all in Boston! Thanks
John & Dave..and it was way cool meeting you Delaura...Hope it's less than 8
year till the next Iron Horse!

The shaving razor is OLD.

I know what you mean, Bob. First few times I heard the song way back when,
I couldn't figure out whether it was "old" or "cold." But finally John put
"Daydream Believer" on his Warner Bros. '71 LP, "The Lonesome Picker Rides
Again," and included a lyric sheet (complete with one of John's best
photos), where we learned the true phrase is "The shaving razor's old and it
stings ... "

Again, it must depend on the ISP. I'm such a packrat (despite Ron's
wonderful archiving of all of the Bloodlines) that I've retained messages
since I first joined in, um, February? And I have ... oh, my ... almost 400
messages stored.
(Hmmmm ... time to unload, methinks.)

Kent
